Around 2,000 run or walk to charity Thanksgiving morning
ELKHART - Around 2,000 people started their Thanksgiving by walking or running in a race Thursday. A total of 645 people gathered in Nappanee to walk or run two or four miles in the I?m Thankful Four. A total of 1,480 registered for the 10K (6.2-mile), 5K (3.1-mile) and one-mile events in Elkhart that were part of the third annual Turkey Stampede.

For local charities, Christmas has come early.
ELKHART - Bill Rieth, president of United Way of Elkhart County, announced Wednesday that a couple who wishes to remain anonymous has given $100,000 each to Faith Mission, Church Community Services and United Way of Elkhart County. He made the announcement at the United Way office.

330 minutes, 295 miles, a half-ton of help for hungry
On Saturday Janet Iles drove 5 1/2 hours with co-workers Missy Gilmore and Beth Baker to Elkhart from Batavia, Ohio, with 1,000 pounds of food. The group donated the food to Elkhart's Faith Mission, and they're hopeful it will be the first of many drops they'll make around the country.

Some in need this Christmas chose to give
A good crowd turned out for an annual Christmas tradition at Faith Mission. They helped make and deliver meals to around 200 elderly shut-ins throughout the Elkhart area.
Some of the volunteers included clients from the mission who are out of work, and some with church groups who were laid off.

WSBT Channel 22 News recent covered the Faith Mission's 915 Project. Reporter Ed Ernstes that "Thousands of unemployed RV workers in Elkhart County are looking for new work. It isn't easy. But on Tuesday, a group found much more than just a job."

The Faith Mission has a new home for women and families facing dark times.
ELKHART -- Maureen Gallagher may have hit her lowest point in late March.
She had been living with her son, Loyd Keener Jr., and granddaughter, Sabrina, after contracting Hepatitis C from her ex-husband. Maureen had been out of work for a while and she was the type of person who was used to taking care of everyone else. She hadn't gotten Social Security disability as she hoped. Maureen was bipolar, battling depression and self-mutilating, but not to the point of bleeding because she didn't want to scare her granddaughter, whom she had helped raise much of her four years.
